CULTURAL & COMMUNITY SPACES

Spaces we have created to connect

These early gatherings brought art, culture and participation together in different ways. They are part of AMARTE’s journey creating spaces for community, wellbeing and connection.

The gatherings below have already taken place. Our current theory of change was developed later; these experiences form part of the history that precedes it.

Día de la Canción Criolla

AMARTE’s first official event brought together live Peruvian music, poetry, cultural reflection and food, including anticuchos. A space to connect with Peru from afar, sharing cultural memory and identity while living in Australia.

Agitando Pañuelos

The handkerchief became an invitation to take part. Peruvian music and dance, workshop moments and artistic performances brought people into the experience, beyond watching from the audience. Live music and a festive closing made room for shared celebration.

Contando Historias

Everyone carries a story. Childhood photographs, a memory collage and a participatory wall with Post-it contributions invited people to share something of themselves. Stories, music and artistic expression accompanied this community gathering in December.

Deseos · Make a Wish

An invitation to share wishes, hopes and aspirations. Alongside what we hope for, we made room for what we can offer: gestures, ideas and support that can help a wish become possible, individually and together.

PERFORMING ARTS

De Par en Par

Theatre and artistic production are also part of AMARTE’s journey. De Par en Par brings stories into an encounter with an audience, alongside our workshops and cultural and community spaces. These photographs document moments from the production.

AMARTE CULTURE

Acknowledgement of Country

AMARTE Culture acknowledges the Kaurna People of the Adelaide Plains as the Traditional Custodians of the Country where we gather, create and connect. We pay our respects to Kaurna Elders past and present, and honour their enduring cultural and spiritual connection to Country.

We honour the First Peoples of this land, whose cultures, stories and connections to Country continue across generations.

As we gather on Kaurna Country, we do so with respect for its Traditional Custodians and their continuing care for Country.

About Country and Elders

Country encompasses relationships with land, waters, culture and community. Elders are recognised cultural knowledge holders and leaders. These terms are retained in the Spanish version to respect their specific meaning.
